Bionic Vision Lab PhD student Emily Joyce has been named an inaugural UC Noyce Graduate Student Fellow, one of only five doctoral students selected across the University of California and the sole fellow representing UC Santa Barbara.

Emily’s research explores how computational modeling can help guide the development of next-generation retinal prostheses. Her fellowship project focuses on a particularly ambitious goal: understanding how future implants might move beyond today’s limited prosthetic vision to provide richer visual information, including color.

The UC Noyce Graduate Student Fellowship supports interdisciplinary doctoral research in computational health, cybersecurity, and quantum information science. Each fellow receives up to $150,000 in research support over two years.
